New, easy-to-service, direct-acting solenoid valves launched by Bürkert

22 March 2024

Manufacturers of drinks machines and medical equipment need specialist control valves to manage the flow of both liquids and steam, as well as deliver reliable service at a suitable cost point.

Bürkert’s latest product release is a new range of tool-free, easy-to-service valves that meet the requirements of medical as well as food and beverage applications. The design simplicity of the valves meets FDA approval and offers an excellent solution for cost-effective, high-volume OEM procurement.

Bürkert’s range of direct-acting solenoid valves, the Type 7015, 7016, and 7017, have been designed specifically for manufacturers of commercial coffee machines and hot drink vending applications, as well as a variety of medical machines, such as in-vitro diagnostics equipment. With repeated, daily use, these valves have also got to be reliable as well as easy to clean and maintain.

Simplified specification
The Type 7015 two-port (2/2) and 7016 three-port (3/2) plunger valves are designed for durability for the on/off control of neutral liquids and gases. The Type 7017 is a three-port (3/2) media-separated rocker valve for repeatable dosing, filling, mixing and distribution of neutral and aggressive liquids and gases

The valves feature robust push-in connections and a highly durable body, constructed from PPS food-grade plastic. This enables them to handle media temperatures up to 100°C, and the valves are pressure-resistant up to 12bar. The powerful solenoid enables a compact valve design while the core can endure up to 100,000 cycles.

To optimise hygiene, the valves are also fast and simple to clean, including the Type 7017 valve with rocker technology used for media such as milk. The range achieves hygienic compliance and meets FDA and NSF approvals, as well as EC 1935/2004.

Easy installation
To simplify initial OEM installation, the valves can be specified with screw fixing or a quick-clip bracket depending on the application. Hose connections are directly on the valve, which means that no additional adaptors, seals, or push-in fittings are required.

Alternatively, ports can be connected via a flange for mounting directly onto a backplane to minimise the equipment footprint.

To optimise the electrical installation, the solenoids can be unsecured, without the use of tools, and orientated in one of four positions to enhance cable routing.

Tool-free maintenance
Machines that are in constant, daily use need to be designed and built for optimum reliability and the new range has been developed according to Bürkert’s renowned design and manufacturing quality. This includes making routine maintenance as simple as possible – in this case, tool-free.

Lengthy maintenance and cleaning processes mean downtime that can be costly if the machine needs to be in regular operation. All the solenoids on these valves are held in position with bayonet clips, allowing simple, tool-free removal for easy replacement of the long-life magnetic core during servicing.

For Type 7017, the separating diaphragm can be easily inspected and replaced by opening the quick-release fasteners and does not need the fluidics unit to be changed. All these design features save time for maintenance personnel, which means less downtime for equipment and greater productivity.

Cost-effective solutions
Machine OEMs involved in automatic drinks dispensers, sterilisation equipment and IVD machines need to offer their customers a reliable product that is also easy to maintain. With all this equipment used around the world, simple procedures that do not require tools offer an additional benefit.

Simplifying the design of a machine reduces the time to market, while designing the machines for easy assembly reduces the resources required to complete the build. Bürkert’s valves achieve a compact footprint for straightforward design integration, and the associated data sheets provide full specifications including dimensions and electrical requirements.
