Gain More Security during Food Processing

18 May 2009

ENSINGER, a leading supplier and processor of engineering and high performance plastics with UK headquarters in South Wales, can now offer a new stock shape material, TECAFORM AH ID (POM-C), which gives more security during food processing. The material contains an additive which enables its immediate detection in the case of equipment failure. The material can be sensed by the use of a standard metal detector within typical quality testing procedures. The development was brought forward with the co-operation of LOMA Systems, one of the leading suppliers of metal detectors in the food industry.
Due to customers needs, a solution for detecting material within food processing and packaging has been established. The new material is already being used successfully within the sector.
Previously, only highly visible, specially coloured materials could be detected (for example, blue). Failures could often be detected only after a long period of time, which in turn would defect a large quantity of the final product. The new development sets a milestone in the industry of food processing, which enables prompt quality assurance and minimizes potential financial loss.
The essential properties of the material compare with the basic material, TECAFORM (POM), both mechanically, thermally and with regard to chemical resistance (cleaning agents). TECAFORM AH ID is FDA compliant and meets other standard requirements of the food industry.
