EX-ATEX approved magnetostrictive position sensors

27 May 2009

RDP Electronics' new MTS R-Series magnetostrictive position sensors are now available in EX-ATEX approved versions. Suitable for use in Zone 2 hazardous areas for gas and Zone 22 for dust, the approval applies to all Analogue, SSI and CANbus versions of the R-Series transducers. For more critical hazardous areas such as Zones 1 and 2, solutions can be devised by use of larger housings to provide mechanical protection for electronic components.

Thanks to proprietary synchronisation technology, the R-Series SSI offers accurate position output while minimising inherent system-related delays. The double-shielded design provides high-level EMC immunity and is packaged in a compact IP 67 housing as standard, with the EX-ATEX approved explosion-proof versions as an option. The R-Series Fieldbus network sensors are capable of sensing up to 15 magnet positions and five magnet velocities simultaneously along a single axis, a capability that can be used to eliminate multiple linear or discrete sensors.
