P4A introduces new concept in process management software to the UK

18 June 2009

Products4Automation (P4A), the new independent UK based automation hardware and software specialist set up by former Citect MD, Paul Hurst, has introduced the latest version of Felten's innovative process management software suite - Pilot - to the UK market. The Pilot software suite introduces the concept of 'Production Intelligence' to UK manufacturers, and offers significant improvements to reporting, visualisation, control and production efficiency, compared with more conventional SCADA/MES type products.

Werner Felten, founder and CEO of the company that developed Pilot (which is proven in many demanding applications, including the microelectronics and FDA-monitored sectors), describes the software as having the functional part of SCADA and MES (manufacturing execution systems), but having the flexibility and ease of configuration that allows its implementation in virtually any process operation.

The software suite comprises Pilot MES, Pilot MDC (machine data/production data), Pilot PCM (production content management, Pilot WDS (weighing and dispensing) and Pilot BDS (batch dosing system).

A key feature of Pilot is its 'workflow' structure, which allows full integration of existing digital and paper format data gathering processes. Moreover, these workflows can be created and modified at any time - and in a "matter of minutes" - to match hourly, daily, weekly process demands. The Production Intelligence element of Pilot sets it apart from other process management software products, allowing a much more holistic and focussed view of the production environment in real time (including the many individual manual data gathering activities that exist in the process industries).

According to Mr Hurst, Pilot provides the best opportunity to solve production problems and improve manufacturing efficiency, of any process management software product launched in the UK in the last ten years.
