Intelligent drives and matched servo motors are aimed at cost competitive OEM applications

24 June 2010

The SV7 ranges of intelligent digital servo drives and matching motors from Applied Motion Products (AMP), which are available exclusively in the UK and Ireland from Mclennan Servo Supplies, combine powerful features and economical pricing in a choice of four control options - from simple analogue or pulse and direction operation through to graphical point-and-click multi-axis motion programming with CANopen distributed control connectivity.

Aimed at cost competitive OEM automation applications, the SV7 range features a DSP controlled power stage with selectable current rating up to 7A continuous and 14A peak from a 24 to 80Vdc input. AMP’s Digital DQ current loop with sine commutation provides smooth motion across a wide bandwidth for precise position and speed control. The panel mounted drive features D-type connectors for machine interfacing I/O and encoder feedback with separate RJ11 communications connection and screw terminal connectors for motor and power supply. A front mounted LED array provides error and operational status.

The fully protected drive includes a complement of 8 digital inputs, four digital outputs and analogue inputs for speed and positioning modes. All I/O is configurable for common machine control tasks such as fast encoder input, home and limit switches.

For a competitive and completely packaged motion control solution, AMP V series matched performance NEMA 17 and 23 frame servo motors are available with motor power and feedback connectors fitted. A selection of interconnecting cables and extension cables are also available to ensure fast and straightforward installation in the customers’ application. AMP Quick Tuner™ software which features a built-in digital oscilloscope is available for fast drive configuration.

A choice of three drive control options and a CANopen option allows maximum application flexibility for the SV7 range. The basic -S version provides a selectable range of analogue control in torque or velocity modes with encoder feedback as well as digital pulse and direction. The –S can also operate in an ASCII communications host command mode.

The -Si (Simple Indexer) version allows pre-programmed stand alone operation using AMP Si Programmer, a Windows based point-and-click graphical software for simple motion control with built-in tuning.

For the most sophisticated control, the -Q controller version is a fully integrated intelligent drive using the AMP high level ‘Q’ programming language for complete multi-tasked motion and machine control. The –Q can handle conditional processing, maths functions and high speed position registration for complex move sequencing and electronic gearbox applications.

The –S, -Si and –Q control options share compatibility with AMP ST stepper motor drives and BLu series high power servo drives and may be mixed in applications for cost and performance optimisation.

The CANopen option board allows -Q controller program sequences to be triggered and modified using the CANopen network creating a powerful distributed motion control system for the SV7 drive.

Multi-axis host control or standalone operation is also possible with AMP SiNET Hub and Si programmer software which allows up to four or eight -S, -Si, or -Q drives to be configured, sequenced and networked with a PC, PLC or HMI in host or standalone modes.
