Discover untapped profit with ABB’s new OriMaster calculators
04 September 2009
ABB has released online calculators showing how its new OriMaster single-piece orifice flowmeter can help plant operators achieve dramatic cost savings compared to conventional, multi-piece orifice flowmeter technologies.
A conventional orifice flowmeter installation can be comprised of over 25 separate components, each presenting one or more potential leakage paths. In comparison, ABB’s OriMaster features an integrated ABB DP transmitter and manifold design. By eliminating up to 80% of the potential leak points, it greatly reduces both fugitive emissions and also the metering errors caused by such leakage.
The online calculator enables users to select a choice of pipe diameter sizes and set the number of orifice flowmeter installations at their plant. The calculator then compares a conventional orifice hook-up, half-inch schedule 80 impulse pipe installation against the OriMaster to calculate both the reduction in the number of leakage paths and the overall cost saving through the consequent reduction in components.
“The calculator provides a convincing case for operators to opt for the OriMaster over conventional multi-piece orifice flowmeters for future installations,” says Tony Hoyle, ABB’s UK Flow Products Manager. “Taking a single flowmeter on a 50mm pipe, for example, an operator could cut their installation cost by over 35% compared to a conventional installation, with a reduction in leakage paths from 30 down to just seven.”
The latest in ABB’s new FlowMaster range, the OriMaster comes fully factory configured and pressure tested, solving many of the problems associated with sizing, selection, installation and operation of conventional orifice plate installations.
Suitable for clean liquids, gases and steam applications in line sizes from 1" to 8” (DN25 to DN200) and at pressures up to 100 bar, the OriMaster combines all the major components needed for an orifice plate installation in one assembly. This eliminates the need for users to design, source and install a separate manifold, transmitter and impulse piping, typically cutting the cost of installation and commissioning by up to 40%.
“The OriMaster offers an innovative single-piece construction for a cost effective, simple installation,”’ says Hoyle. “There is no need for separate impulse lines so you get safer, more efficient flow metering whilst minimising the potential for dangerous fugitive emissions and securing plant safety and control.”
The OriMaster’s all-in-one design also offers enhanced accuracy and a faster speed of response, with no problems caused by issues such as long or blocked impulse lines, or impaired signals due to condensation in gas system impulse lines or gas bubbles in liquid lines.
Installing the OriMaster is simplified by its wafer design orifice carrier assembly, enabling it to be fitted into an existing space between standard pipe flanges with minimal disruption to the surrounding pipework. Additionally, the unit’s centralisation tool improves accuracy and confidence that the installation is correct . These all make it ideal for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) applications, by enabling fast and simple replacement with no cutting or welding required.
