There is money to save, scaling the protective measures in correspondence with the actual safety demands.Installing a functional safety system which is more complicated than required by the risk assessment will not make the machinery safer. 80% of all functional safety applications can be solved with the integrated single channel safety solution in the Danfoss FC series drives (VLT® AutomationDrive, VLT® HVAC Drive and VLT® AQUA Drive).
Danfoss drives meet the new harmonised safety standards ISO/EN 13849-1 (performance level d) and Safety Integrety Level 2 according to IEC/EN 62061 (SIL2). This feature prevents a drive from starting accidentally.
This is crucial for applications where preventing unintended starts are of vital importance. The safe stop terminal 37 can be used as Safe Torque Off (STO) acc. to IEC/EN 61800-5-2 for this purpose.
Expensive and bulky external components can be omitted, wiring simplified, and down-time minimised with this solution. And the safety signals can be transferred via discrete signals wiring (in compact machinery) or safe bus communication (in extended manufacturing plants).
The electrical connection is extremely simple – just one wire
By using a safety relay with delayed safety output it is possible to perform a Safe Stop 1 (SS1) function acc. to IEC 61800-5-2, the motor is first stopped by the inverter and after standstill the safety device switches to the STO function. This method is the same as stop category 1 (time controlled stop) acc. to IEC 60204-1. Safety category 3 acc. to EN 954-1, PL d (performance level d) acc. to EN ISO13849-1 and SIL CL2 acc. to EN 62061 can be achieved for both STO and SS1 functionality.
The modular security concept of the Danfoss FC- series platform
The Danfoss FC series (VLT® AutomationDrive, HVAC Drive and AQUA Drive) is prepared for the future, prepared to adapt additional integrated safety features.
