New plug-in module controls up to four servo axes

07 May 2010

A new plug-in module from Metronix is capable of controlling up to four coordinated servo axes from the ARS 2000 servo drive. The MC 2000 module, available in the UK from Motor Technology, is simply inserted into an ARS 2000 servo drive where it acts as a master capable of controlling up to three additional servo drive slaves via CANopen DSP402. An external encoder can be connected and software configured as an additional axis for the MC 2000.

The MC 2000 is easily programmable using a PC with the established Motion Perfect software from Trio Motion. It delivers fast cycle times of one millisecond with up to four servo axes and high-speed sample input for fast measuring and interpretation of actual values.

The MC 2000 is suitable for a wide range of applications where complex motion control is required such as electronic cam drives and gears, joint axis, point-to-point positioning and several types of interpolation.

A big advantage is the reduced space required and the elimination of a majority of the wiring between servo drive and the motion controller, saving design-in and installation time as well as connector and cable costs.
