New wiring design tools from Zuken

24 May 2010

Zuken has introduced two new design tools for electrical wiring systems. The first is the integration tool E3.Saber Frameway for Zuken’s cable design software E3.cable. This allows right-first-time creation of robust wire harness, hydraulic and pneumatic designs through early access to virtual prototyping results. The solution provides direct integration for the multi-domain simulation of cable and wire harnesses, hydraulic and pneumatic with the Synopsys’ Saber Simulator. In addition to the benefits for engineers creating wire harness designs, the E3.Saber Frameway will also save time for simulation engineers by reducing duplicative efforts through the reuse of E3.series design data within the Saber environment by eliminating the need to re-enter data into the simulation environment.

By making an interconnection with E3.series, simulation engineers using the Saber solution can perform accurate system-wide electrical verification. This saves time by eliminating the need to redraw schematics within the Saber environment for simulation.

The potential for errors is reduced as E.Saber Frameway helps eliminate the need to send design updates manually from the simulation engineer back to the design engineer. For simulation purpose all engineers use E3.series library data as one common database. This eliminates errors and reduces administration effort.

Any changes the simulation engineer makes to the design are immediately part of the production design. Simulation results such as voltage and current values can be back-annotated into E3.series.

The second development is the E3.Wiring Diagram Generator, a new tool for the automatic creation of schematic wiring diagrams as part of the 2010 version of E3.series. The new module generates schematic wiring diagrams for engineering and after-sales documentation. These are created by following user-defined design rules and using existing netlist information from a basic CSV file - tasks that would have previously taken hours or days, now only take minutes.

E3.Wiring Diagram Generator can be used as a design migration tool by accepting CSV format connection lists, which can be created manually or extracted from older outdated wiring tools. This speeds up the creation of new documentation without the need for labour-intensive redrawing of schematics or error-prone graphic file conversions.
