Hybrid motor starters: space-saving switchgear with a long service life

09 June 2010

The new Contactron hybrid motor starters from Phoenix Contact are the space saving alternative to mechanical contactor circuits. They offer long service life and up to four functions: clockwise contactor, counter-clockwise contactor, motor protection relay, and emergency stop. A range of compact switchgear for motors up to 4kW is available from the simple 'one-in-one' direct starter up to the 'four-in-one' reversing starter with motor protection and emergency stop.

The 22.5mm wide devices are available in the three power classes 0.6A, 2.4A, and 9A — with input voltages of 24Vdc or 120/230Vac. The new 0.6A power class is suitable for motors up to 0.18kW.

The hybrid technology a microprocessor-controlled combination of rugged relay technology with wear-free semiconductor technology reduces the load on the relay contacts, facilitates low-wear switching, and therefore extends the service life of these devices by a factor of ten when compared with a standard, purely mechanical device.
