Spinning clinch bolts for thin metal panels
11 June 2010

PEM spinning clinch bolts for thin metal panels are one-piece captive screws whose controlled clinching action during installation permanently captures the screw while allowing it to spin freely in the sheet. This allows quick attachment of mating hardware with reduced need for loose fasteners (such as screws and retaining clips or washers). These fasteners can serve as less-costly alternatives to multi-component fastener assemblies.
The product line includes Type SCB fasteners with a non-threaded neck for axial float and Type SCBJ with a jacking feature. Both are suitable for aluminum or steel sheets as thin as 1.02mm. Their application potential expands when paired with PEM Type N10 receptacle nuts or PEM Type RAS right-angle fasteners.
The fasteners install by simply pressing them into a properly sized hole. The applied squeezing force to the top of the screw head and the underside of the sheet material forces the shoulder of the screw into the sheet, displaces sheet material, and causes it to fill the void under the head and shoulder of the screw. This permanently captures the fastener in the panel.
