Fripp Design strengthens senior management team

Fripp Design and Research has appointed Charles Turner (pictured), managing director of Sheffield based knife manufacturer Durham Duplex, as its non executive chairman. The appointment reflects Fripp's plan to launch a manufacturing facility. Mr Turner, who is also chairman of Made in Sheffield, will assist in guiding the company through the transition from service delivery provider to manufacturer.
Fripp Design and Research’s original mission was to develop its own Intellectual Property (IP) and license it to third parties. The company has subsequently identified that there is a strategic opportunity for it to use its Research, Design and IP expertise and combine it with in-house manufacturing.
Sue Roberts, a director at Fripp Design and Research, says Mr Turner's wealth of experience and network of contacts will be an invaluable asset. "He will not only bring an objective perspective, but will also provide the checks and balances needed to help us deal with the challenges that lie ahead,” she said
Mr Turner views Fripp is an exciting company. "It is following a well respected path of UK innovators that recognise it is possible to gain a competitive advantage through the development and manufacture of IP, something which the Sheffield region has a proud history of doing," he says. "I’m looking forward to providing the company with the support and advice it needs, as it continues to evolve."
During the course of the last year Fripp Design and Research significantly increased its customer base, adding well-known names such as B&Q, Boots, Balfour Beatty, The Wellcome Trust and Sheffield University to its portfolio. It has also seen turnover more than double in the last financial year and the company has ambitious plans for further sustained growth.
