Schroff takes a World Cup position

Subracks, backplanes, power supplies and fan units from enclosure specialist Schroff have been used by German audio equipment manufacturer Lawo to help it achieve the reliability necessary for the TV sound systems in four new SABC outside-broadcast vehicles, which made their debut at the World Cup in South Africa last month.
As well as being faced with severe space constraints, Schroff engineers had to incorporate EMC shielding into key parts of the audio system and, above all, provide effective yet quiet cooling of the densely packed electronics.
To meet these demanding specifications, Schroff supplied 3U and 10U enclosures, based on standard europacPRO components, together with custom parts such as air deflectors, side panels with special perforations, rear component assemblies and a reinforced backplane mounting.
In addition, the company was called upon to design a special backplane and develop modified, compact, redundant PSUs to meet SABC’s requirements for high power density and availability.
