Ringspann celebrates its 40th anniversary

Ringspann UK was founded in Bedford in 1970. Forty years on its business continues to grow year on year and has diversified to make it one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of freewheels and backstops, disc brakes, torque limiters, workholding fixtures and push/pull cables in the UK. its customers range from F1 teams through aerospace manufacturers to pump and conveyor manufacturers.
Some recent highlights include the supply of the largest freewheels ever delivered by the company for use in an off-shore power generation project. Each has a peak capacity of 48,000Nm and weighs the same as a large family car.
Ringspann has just completed delivery and commissioning of its most complex and innovative suite of Workholding fixtures (pictured) to one of the world’s leading aero engine manufacturers. When fitted to a five-axis milling machine, the fixtures hold 1,200mm diameter components destined for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programme. Repeatably is to within 0.020mm, and cycle times have already been cut by over 50%.
The company also currently supplies high-specification, ultra-lightweight control cables for in-car driver adjustable settings to most of the current Formula 1 teams. These use Ringspann RCS cabling technology with bespoke end parts made from lightweight alloys and are assembled in its Bedford HQ.
