Antimicrobial copper website goes live

20 September 2010

The UK section of the global website http://www.antimicrobialcopper.com/ is now live, providing a portal for a wealth of scientific and practical information on the properties and applications of antimicrobial copper and bringing together a community of partners from decision makers to specifiers to suppliers.

There is now compelling evidence that copper is a powerful, broad spectrum antimicrobial material, demonstrated to reduce environmental contamination in challenging clinical environments by greater than 90%. The first hospitals have already acted and installed copper surfaces and industry is responding to meet early demand for materials and products.

This site aims to bring together all those with an interest in specifying, designing, producing, supplying and using antimicrobial copper and to make accessible the latest news and information.
For Infection Control Practitioners, the site has the latest scientific evidence on the role of copper touch surfaces in infection control: providing an additional weapon in the fight against infectious organisms including MRSA, E. Coli and C. diff.  Key information from peer-reviewed and published papers as well as references are given in the ‘Scientific Evidence’ section.

Producers and suppliers of approved so-called antimicrobial copper alloy semi-finished products – tube, sheet, extrusions etc, can register to use the Antimicrobial Copper brand and be listed in the material supplier directory.

As manufacturers develop their antimicrobial copper ranges to meet the demand for products such as taps, door handles, grab rails, medical equipment and ward furniture, they can access the material supplier directory to help source approved alloys, request alloy sample packs and technical support.  They can then register to use the Antimicrobial Copper brand on their marketing materials and the Cu+ mark on their products and become listed in the online directory to help specifiers source their products.

Architects and Designers are invited to register as partners too, to access information on alloys and design, request alloy sample sets and in-house presentations and to become listed in the directory of service providers.  Architects seeking products can post details of their project and requirements on the site to reach the global community of suppliers.

The material, product and service provider directories can all be found in the ‘Find Products and Partners’ section of the site.  Information on alloys, registering to use the brand and registering projects can be found in the ‘Partners Resources’ section.

The news and downloads section provides the latest press releases, events and then a wealth of brochures, articles, case studies and presentations on science and practical application of antimicrobial copper.

Visit the site, join the community or partners and sign up to receive the quarterly e-newsletter bringing information on the latest developments from around the world.
