High efficiency motors with all the extras

08 October 2010

A wide range of options for IE2 high efficiency motors in a power range 0.75 to 30kW is offered on the Techdrives website. Increasingly electric motors are expected to do more than simply run at their rated speed, for example a wide speed range may be needed in inverter control, or a set speed is to be maintained with high precision.

Extra functionality requires modifications to standard motors and here Techdrives has all the options. Machine designers and motor specifies can quickly choose from a range of standard options, saving engineering time.

Where the motor is inverter controlled and a wide speed range is required, blowers are needed to maintain motor cooling. Both 1 and 3 phase blowers are available. For speed precision feedback is needed. Here Techdrives offers resolvers, incremental encoders of various pulse rates and even absolute encoders.

Spring applied brakes can be added for holding, dynamic and emergency stopping with a choice of preset torque levels. Other mechanical options include hand wheels for emergency winding, plug connectors and various protective finishes to suit indoor and outdoor operation. Up to 7.5kW motors can be supplied with terminal box inverters.

The IE2 efficiency level of Techdrives motors is needed to meet the Energy related Products (ErP) legislation EN60034 mandatory in Europe from June 2011. Some types of motors are exempt from the regulations, for example brake motors, 1 phase motors and those falling under ATEX regulations. These types are also offered on the Techdrives website together with a guide to the regulations and frequently asked questions.
