Metal face sensors resist weld spatter: droplets simply wipe off

25 October 2010

Survivability in body-in-white welding areas is key to the new 2-wire R series stainless steel sensors from ifm electronic, which features a solid steel sensing face. As well as resisting the adverse thermal affects of weld spatter, a special coating applied to the new R series also ensures that the spatter does not adhere to the sensing surface. Droplets simply wipe off.

The new devices are also designed with users of two-wire systems in mind, with M12 plugs pre-wired on 300mm cable for NPN or PNP systems. For users preferring something longer, open-ended cable versions are also supplied in 3m and 5m lengths. The cable itself adheres to the specification required for such tasks, being both tough and flexible.

Standard M12, M18 and M30 sizes are on offer.  All designs are only 40mm long to save space in the installation, yet give impressive sensing ranges of 4, 6 and 12mm respectively even when embedded in steel.
