Laser distance measurement sensor offers 5mm accuracy over 300m

02 December 2010

Leuze electronic’s new laser distance measurement unit, the AMS300i offers a wide choice of communication protocols, including ProfiNET and ProfiBUS as well as EtherNet/IP, DeviceNET, CANopen, EtherCAT and Ethernet TCP/IO or Interbus. The device also offers an accuracy of +/-5mm in 300m and +/-2mm over shorter ranges.

The new AMS300i has exactly the same distance from the mounting plate to the front of the len as its predecessor, the AMS200. This, combined with the same laser time of flight technology, means that the new unit offers a plug and play replacement for the AMS200. And the unit calculates speed and can also be configured with boundary positions, customers report a 30% cost saving in implementation of the overall system, compared with competitor products that only provide distance data.
