Nuclear sector business opportunities highlighted at one-day conference
15 February 2011
Regional manufacturers seeking business opportunities within the nuclear supply chain can benefit from an insight into the industry when leading experts in the field address a conference in Rotherham on March 10th. The event, entitled ‘Nuclear Decommissioning’ has been organised by the Special Metals Forum (SMF) in association with Sellafield Ltd, the company with the largest concentration of nuclear expertise in Europe. The SMF is the membership arm of the National Metals Technology Centre.

As well as highlighting lucrative opportunities within the nuclear decommissioning industry, the conference will discuss ways in which companies can join the tier 2 supply chain. Sellafield Ltd is the company responsible for safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing, nuclear waste management and fuel manufacturing activities on behalf of the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. Now under the ownership of Nuclear Management Partners, Sellafield Ltd has more than 50 years of experience in the industry.
SMF Programme Manager Alastair Lang says the UK’s nuclear industry represents a lucrative potential market for businesses in the special metals sector, both in terms of the new power stations due to be built over the coming decades and the decommissioning of existing facilities. "This event will give delegates an opportunity to hear from industry experts as well as the chance to network with key players in the nuclear field,” he says.
The delegate rate for Nuclear Decommissioning is £75 plus VAT for non members. The cost to Special Metals Forum or Titanium Information Group Members is £25 plus VAT, and for BSSA, BMPCA and CCSA members it is £50 plus VAT.
