Modular drives achieve high performance levels
09 March 2011
According to B&R Automation, drives are best taken out of the switching cabinet and placed in the direct vicinity of the machine. This turns configurable modules into mechatronic units that are more easily connected within the machine, reducing installation space and shortening commissioning times. One such drive is B&R's ACOPOSmulti65, which can be mounted directly on a machine to achieve these benefits.
ACOPOSmulti65 drives are IP65 protected, and multiple units can be daisy-chained to provide a flexible machine architecture in which energy is simply passed from one drive module to the next.
In addition to the proven wired safety functions STO (Safe Torque Off) and SS1 (Safe Operational Stop 1 time-monitored), network-based ACOPOSmulti65 variants, based on openSAFETY, will also be available in the future as an option. This will allow users to access the following functions that have already been certified for ACOPOSmulti: STO, SBC, SOS, SS1, SS2, SLS, SMS, SLI, SDI and SLP.
