Controllers For Light Ac Motor Driven Electric Vehicles

01 August 2000

Curtis Instruments is currently developing two new ac motor controllers
for light industrial and on-road vehicle applications. Designated 1236
and 1238, the units feature advanced thermal management, resulting in
substantially reduced controller size and reliability. The sealed design
also protects the electronics from harsh environments and extends the
product’s useful life. OEms can develop a custom ‘feel’ for their vehicle
applications by using Curtis’ Vehicle Control Language (VCL), which is
embedded in flash memory.

A Basic-like, easy-to-learn language with a library of pre-defined
electric vehicle functions, the software can be modified in the field
without having to dismount the controller. VCL programs execute their
instructions without affecting the motor control algorithms. Features
include CAN-bus, multiplexer and display interfaces, plus a current and
voltage rating of 200-800A and 24-80V.
