GTMA plans a 'Bringing it Back to Britain' event

Over the last year the trend has been for large OEMs to reconsider their policies with regards to outsourcing. Companies have reported work returning to the UK which previously would have been placed in low cost economies. This exciting reversal of business strategy is in the wake of the cost implications of project managing overseas production. From 8.30 am until 3.30pm on Wednesday, 11th May 2011 the GTMA will host its ‘Bringing it Back to Britain’ event.
At the Bringing it Back to Britain event, which takes place at Yamazaki Mazak’s Worcester plant, the GTMA will highlight the recent engineering successes already being enjoyed by UK-based manufacturing companies, such as Jaguar and Triumph Motorcycles. These companies have placed significant orders for tooling, precision machining and mould and die support with British precision engineering companies, and are reaping multifaceted rewards.
Over 30 GTMA member companies will be exhibiting at the event, including tool makers, rapid prototype and precision machining companies, as well as the all important technical supporting services of leading metrology, software and cutting tool/workholding suppliers.
Richard Noble, the driving force behind the Bloodhound SSC project that is attempting to break the 1000 mph barrier, is the key speaker at the event. It is clear from this latest venture, as well as his previously successful Thrust SSC supersonic land speed record, that Richard Noble has a keen passion for British engineering.
Speaking about the event, the GTMA’s Chief Executive, Julia Moore, says: “As one of the most comprehensive and up-to-date machine tool manufacturing plants in Europe, over 85 per cent of the Mazak plant’s production is exported into Europe, so the event could not be held at a better location. It is not just an assembly plant but a complete state-of-the-art machine tool manufacturing facility operating just-in-time and flexible output techniques necessary in today’s competitive global marketplace. ”
Bringing it Back to Britain will be held in Mazak’s new European Technical Centre, situated on the same Worcester site as its production facilities. With the latest innovations in high performance machining technology on display together under one roof, the company is able to help European and UK manufacturers achieve significant productivity and profitability increases. Guided tours of the machine tool maker’s production and assembly facilities will also be arranged on the day, lunch and light refreshments will also be included.
