A two-channel receiver module for wireless control devices

03 June 2011

A new .steute two-channel receiver module for wireless control devices makes integration into secondary automation systems much easier thanks to a built-in RS232 port that also enables it to assume the function of a gateway. The 24V ac/dc module receives and evaluates signals from .steute’s wireless control devices and communicates them to other PLC-based systems via two relay outputs or the RS232 port.

The combined receiver/gateway module can be integrated into existing switching cabinets using top-hat rail mountings, making it easy to use .steute’s self-sufficient, energy-harvesting control devices in complex automation systems.

In a few simple steps, .steute’s new receiver/gateway module can learn the transmit protocols of existing wireless switching devices or the 32-bit address (telegrams) from some previously programmed switching addresses. This makes the combined receiver/gateway ideal for use in the automotive and chemical industries.

Using the ‘energy-harvesting’ principle, .steute’s ‘Wireless’ range of self-sufficient, battery-less control devices generate the energy to communicate switching signals from their immediate surroundings, either via an electro-dynamic energy generator converting kinetic movement from the switch actuation, or using a miniature solar cell with integrated energy storage. A range of battery-powered wireless control devices is also available.
