It’s back to basics for the modern home phone
14 June 2011
The modern DECT phone is so feature-rich that many users find them confusing and unnecessarily complicated. Swiss start-up, Punkt has decided that enough is enough, and has embarked on a project to bring a re-imagined and simplified product to market
The Punkt DP 01 DECT phone is designed to do what a phone is supposed to do - make calls. The Swiss consumer electronics start-up had a clear aim in mind, and that was to create a beautifully designed, easy to use home phone without all those ‘confusing’ advanced functions.
Designed by leading industrial designer Jasper Morrison, the DP 01 is a DECT phone re-invented for simplicity and intuitive functionality. No stranger to helping start-ups with new product introductions, Cambridge Consultants was appointed by Punkt to help it select a manufacturing partner, and to provide technical and engineering support through the product development stages through to manufacturing. Punkt chief executive, Raffaella Cardarelli takes up the story:
“Design defines what Punkt stands for, which is articulating the functionality and simplicity of our products through the expression of form and materials. Finding a technology partner that understood this was critical to us, and the team at Cambridge Consultants embraced our approach while helping to make our new DECT phone a reality. Their technical expertise was vital in quickly bringing the DP 01, our first product, to market.”
Cambridge Consultants’ business development manager, Rachel Harker says that creating simple products that are easy and intuitive to use actually takes a lot of care and skill. “It was essential to work closely with Punkt, Jasper Morrison and the Asia-based manufacturing team throughout the development process to ensure that the DP 01 fulfilled its design intent in high volume production. The effort has really paid off and the end result is an elegant phone which is a delight to use.”
The Punkt DP 01 is currently available in select retail locations throughout Europe.
