Multi-function control reduces vehicle operator fatigue

14 June 2011

AB Elektronik , the sensor division of TT electronics, has developed a sophisticated multi-function control capable of replacing a confusing array of switches and joysticks in vehicle control systems. The Multi-Media Interface (MMI) offers multiple switch functions in a compact package, and is ideal for panel applications in cars, agricultural vehicles and in climate control and machine control.

Modern vehicles and automated systems offer many functions requiring manual control, often interfacing with a computer screen. A multiplicity of buttons, switches and so on can confuse operators and reduce concentration on the key task in hand. The MMI allows the user intuitively to perform even complex operations requiring twenty or more functions to be available simultaneously. Switches, magnetic detents, 4-way joystick and even mouse operations can effortlessly be performed after basic familiarisation. Signals are processed at high quality.
Replacing multiple controls with the MMI saves space, and enhances the design of modern control panels. LED-illuminated MMI products from AB Elektronik are styled to ensure a sleek modern appearance and a satisfying haptic experience, enhancing operator confidence and safety. Over long periods, users find that the highly tactile MMI reduces fatigue levels.
“Our MMI interface is attracting a lot of attention from vehicle manufacturers at present”, says AB Elektronik's Phillip Joyce. “The combination of space saving, stylish design and above all efficient operator performance is a very attractive combination.”
