Avdel's 'NeoSpeed' offers four times the throughput of breakstem fasteners
06 July 2011
Avdel has introduced a new fastener generation that takes Speed Fastening technology to the next level. NeoSpeed - developed and optimised using the latest finite element methods - delivers a manufacturing throughput up to four times greater than traditional threaded or breakstem fasteners. The blind riveting system uses pull-through technology with reusable mandrels for installation.

Installed NeoSpeed fasteners save about 50% weight compared with an equivalent breakstem rivet and completely eliminate the waste portion of the stem. Elimination of rivet stems also lowers the material and processing costs, reduces the weight of goods for transportation purposes and increases the number of pieces per carton. All significant environmental benefits over traditional breakstem rivets by reducing carbon emissions to produce parts and transport them to assembly lines, minimizing the amount of packaging and diminishing line-side waste to be disposed of by the user.
The longest NeoSpeed multi-grip rivet in 4.8mm diameter covers a grip range from 0.6mm to 9.2mm and replaces several standard grip fasteners. Because of the wide grip range of the rivets, the new NeoSpeed ranges can be reduced to just three rivet lengths per diameter.
Since NeoSpeed rivets offer three times greater hole size tolerance than standard breakstem rivets, they are far less sensitive to application variations. The patent pending hole-filling external splines fill rear sheet and oversize front sheet holes and accommodate and fill misaligned holes, resulting in improved assembly quality.
Available in steel and aluminium, the NeoSpeed™ range offers higher tensile strength than other multi-grip breakstem rivets and better than average shear strength which is independent of the grip.
