Mouldable moisture adsorbing polymer protects against humidity and moisture

15 July 2011

Brownell has developed a mouldable moisture adsorbing polymer thay can be used as a practical alternative to conventional desiccants for preventing condensation and corrosion within virtually any product or packaging. Using a combination of polymers and adsorbent desiccants this easily injection moulded range of materials offers new and improved opportunities for preventing the deleterious effects of moisture and high humidity, including condensation and corrosion.

Many instruments and industrial enclosures are sensitive to high humidity and moisture, which can lead to malfunction and low reliability issues. Increasingly, electronic systems and instruments are used in hostile environmental conditions and the need to counter these adverse effects demands affordable but effective measures. Typical of these applications are automobiles, industrial control systems, marine applications and high voltage switch gear.

Low dusting, with no risk of loose desiccants, as is the case with broken bags, Brownell's new VMAP material is not water soluble, is deliquescent and can even provide a printable surface.

VMAP can be moulded or machined, making it ideal for those applications where complex shapes are needed to fit the available space. This versatility also makes it useful for low cost prototyping and high volume production quantities.
