Space-saving solid state switches only 17.5mm wide

16 August 2011

Carlo Gavazzi has introduced what it believes are the first solid state switches in a 17.5mm wide format. The space-saving RG series switches ensure reliable operation and long life, offering transient voltage protection, robust construction, vibration resistance (up to 5g) and heat-sink mounting features. The 17.5mm-wide RGS is rated up to 600V/90A ac, and the 17.5mm RGC, with integrated heat sinks, is rated to 20A (30A in a 22.5mm wide housing).

RG series devices are available for control using dc inputs between 4-32VDC, while ac controlled types operate with voltage ranges of 20-275Vac and 20-190Vdc. Switching is selectable between zero-cross or instant-on methods.

Voltage transient protection is provided as standard across outputs using a resistor and capacitor network combined with metal oxide varistors; transient suppressor diodes may be specified where these are more suitable than varistors. There is also protection against control voltage transients, using metal oxide varistors in the case of ac controlled types. DC controlled devices are polarity protected up to 32V.
