See Danfoss VLT Drives' new EC+ concept at the Energy Event

18 August 2011

If you would like to see how Danfoss VLT Drives' new EC+ technology can bring optimum energy efficiency to your system designs, make a note to visit the Energy Event 2011 (NEC Hall 6, Stand 2808, September 13 and 14) where technical experts will be on hand to demonstrate how installation of the VLT® frequency converter series of drives can result in significant energy saving performance with immediate positive impact on your bottom line.

Considered the benchmark for dedicated HVAC applications for many years, Danfoss continues to be the pioneer for energy applications where initial capital cost and lowest cost of ownership are key motivators. Some 1.5 Million VLT HVAC Drives have been installed in HVAC systems all over the world, since the mid nineties, when Danfoss introduced the first dedicated HVAC frequency converter to the market.

The estimated savings that have resulted from the installation of VLT HVAC Drives is a staggering 345 million megawatt hours; this equates approximately to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 202 million tonnes.

The Danfoss EC+ concept makes use of a new control algorithm in the VLT HVAC Drive for controlling permanent magnet (PM) motors. By using the proven voltage vector mode in the Danfoss VLT HVAC Drive, the same dynamic performance and minimised losses are achievable when controlling PM motors as has always been the case with standard induction motors.

Tests have shown efficiencies to be in excess of 90% from drive input to motor shaft output in a large part of the speed control range, which is a significant improvement compared with existing induction motor systems.

Compared with other speed-controlled, high-efficiency motor systems, the Danfoss flexible EC+ concept allows the system designer to choose the most efficient single components thereby ensuring the highest overall system efficiency.

A Danfoss VLT HVAC Drive and PM motor (with IEC shaft) combination will drive any fan wheel.  Moreover, VLT HVAC Drives come with a number of fieldbus options, including BMS communication network connectivity.

Advantages of the EC+ concept at-a-glance:
■ Free choice of motor technology: PM or asynchronous with the same frequency converter
■ Device installation and operation remain unchanged in the choice of all components, independent of manufacturer
■ Superior system efficiency thanks to a combination of individual components with optimum efficiency
