Spirol offers new plastic self-tapping inserts

01 June 2006

New to the Spirol range of inserts is a self-tapping range for plastics that provides a high and consistent pull-out strength. The inserts, offered in sizes from M3 to M6, are installed either using a drill press fitted with a non- pitched tapping head or with a Spirol self-tapping screwdriver. The symmetrical design of each insert simplifies orientation during installation, whilst a lead-in pilot ensures straight installation.

Both thread forming (Series 10) and thread cutting (Series 13) inserts are available, the former being suitable for ductile materials and the latter for brittle materials. Both Series 10 and Series 13 inserts have an external buttress thread which also offers benefits in terms of reduced radial stress due to material displacement, reduced radial forces due to improved force vectoring and lower installation torque.
