Cast-iron hydraulic gear pump offers increased power density

06 October 2011

Concentric AB has launched the FERRA F15 cast-iron hydraulic gear pump designed for robust, high-performance duty in construction and agricultural equipment, materials handling and other mobile/off-highway applications. Like the earlier FERRA F12 pump, the F15 housing and front cover are of cast iron, which dispenses with the rear cover and allows the bearings to be integrated into the housing and the flange to make the whole unit more compact.

The result is increased power density and better installation characteristics compared with conventional designs.

The gear and shaft are in one piece giving the drive and driven gear superior fatigue resistance and allowing the use of large-diameter journals with higher load-bearing capacity.  Made of high-strength, heat-treated steel, the 14-tooth gears improve volumetric efficiency and reduce ripple/noise.

PTFE-impregnated bushings provide optimum alignment and a large support area capable of handling most indirect drives and fan loads.  The single pressure plate has a bronze surface for optimum strength and wear characteristics, while its integral E seal reduces clearance, offsets axial loading and balances itself as pressure increases.

FERRA F15 is extremely robust across a broad temperature range.  The gear gear profile is of an advanced design optimised for reduced pulsation and higher volumetric efficiency.

The F15 pump comes with a range of port and mounting options, splined,  keyed or tapered drive shafts and displacements from 19 to 50cc/rev, pressures up to 276bar (4,000psi up to 30cc/rev) and maximum speed of 3,600rpm.

They can be used as single units or as multi-unit assemblies in combination with multiple FERRA pumps or with pumps from other Concentric ranges.
