Tough enclosures for tough assignments

Water for industrial processes often needs to be monitored for purity and/or gas saturation levels. One company specialising in such monitoring equipment is Analytical Technology, whose products are appropriately housed for the harsh environments in which they are frequently set to work
Many applications, such as wastewater processing, industrial cooling and steam generation, and food processing wash water need constant, reliable monitoring to ensure that the quality of the water supply is maintained. Analytical Technology is one company that offers a range of instrumentation for this task, including two-wire transmitters, complete analysers with PID controls, and portable survey devices that are capable of detecting chlorine levels, dissolved ozone levels and fluoride levels among other parameters.
These water monitors must operate without failure as inaccurate readings could lead to extremely costly failures and potentially hazardous situations that may impact upon plant personnel or, indeed, the wider public. Sensitive electronics has to be protected, so the material and construction of housings must be compatible with the environmental conditions that each monitor is likely to encounter. For this aspect of its product development, Analytical Technology relies on reputable enclosure suppliers such as Spelsberg UK. The company’s technical manager, Chris McTear takes up the story:
“For many of our customers it is important to the safe and hygienic running of their application that they can monitor water levels safely. We know that our reputation is staked on the reliability of our products so we only source materials from suppliers we can trust. Spelsberg is a leading manufacturer of a large range of high quality products. We can trust that, when they specify an enclosure for a given application, it will provide the right protection levels as well as the correct dimensions for easy installation.”
Indeed, Spelsberg is the largest supplier of non-metallic enclosures, ex stock, in the UK. It has a standard range of over 4,000 products, each with novel design features that offer ease of installation and access to internals, as well as environmental protection. The relationship with Analytical Technology extends to working with the latter’s design teams to ensure that each product is housed correctly. Spelsberg supplies a number of products, including its TK range, A-Box range and some distribution units.
With varying levels of ingress protection (up to IP68) and options that include polycarbonate materials of construction and transparent lids, Spelsberg can supply enclosures that are suitable for most electrical applications. Each model is available in a range of dimensions and the distribution boxes are modular in design, which adds to their flexibility.
More flexibility is offered, thanks to two in-house CNC machines, which Spelsberg UK uses to customise any enclosure in its standard range. This milling and drilling service enables customers to specify enclosures down to the last detail, including bespoke entry holes, hinge fixing points, push button holes, countersunk holes and threaded holes. Customisation also ensures that non-standard cables and cable gland requirements are easily accommodated.
