Rexroth 'opens up' with new IndraMotion platform
01 September 2006
At the core of Rexroth's new scaleable IndraMotion MLC is a motion kernel that synchronises up to 16 axes in real time. In addition to standard PLCopen components, the new MLC controller offers extended motion control functions such as print mark control, flying saw or cam group. The control system can handle up to eight tasks in parallel, and synchronises all multi-axis applications in real time with a jitter of less than 1µs. And as the open PLC element of the MLC system is used consistently across all of Rexroth's automation platforms, existing programs or program sections can be reused in all controller variants.
In addition to its 16 I/O, the base module offers most common communication interfaces such as Ethernet (allowing daisy-chaining of individual MLCs), Profibus (as master and slave), RS232 and a Sercos Interface. Thus the controller is 'open' at both actuator and higher control system levels. Additional modules are available to expand the base module with further communication interfaces, as required.
The system is supported by the IndraWorks engineering environment, which integrates all the necessary software tools for Rexroth automation platforms into one standard environment.
