Cambridge Consultants spin-out, Aveillant, appoints CEO

06 December 2011

Aveillant, the latest spin-out from Cambridge Consultant, has appointed David Crisp as its CEO. Aveillant’s technology seeks to remove the concerns about aviation safety and air defence radar that are holding back growth in the wind energy industry. Wind turbines in motion can mimic aircraft on an air traffic controller’s radar screen. Aveillant will provide airfields with the accurate radar data needed to eliminate the potential confusion this could cause.

David is an experienced technology CEO and serial entrepreneur. After a 10 year career in Oil & Gas with Schlumberger he founded the mobile communications software company, Eden Group; a successful exit gave a ten times return for investors.

After a brief spell as entrepreneur-in-residence for a Silicon Valley VC firm, he became CEO of Neopost Online Inc. a $100M funded ecommerce start-up, providing online postage, package and shipping services. Returning to the UK in 2005, David joined wave energy device developer Orecon Ltd as CEO, closing a £12m ‘A’ round funding.

Commenting on his appointment, David Crisp said, “Aviation air traffic control radar interference is a huge problem for the wind industry. In the UK alone, two thirds of all wind farm planning applications are held up by this problem. Aveillant’s CH-InFill technology provides a zero degradation, regional based solution and is a great example of proven technology being applied to a new application.”

Aveillant was launched in October 2011 with funding from DFJ Esprit and AIFCL, the wind industry fund.
