Delicate baked Wafer Rolls that melt in the Mouth and the Power of the SMS KS Right-Angle Servo Geared Motor
13 December 2011
When it comes to industrial production of high quality wafers, Steinhoff is one of the main global manufacturers of Automatic baking systems. To increase the productivity of the baking equipment, it was decided to redesign the drive system completely. The previous vertical shaft was to be replaced by a modern servo system.

Stober
STOBER was asked to implement this idea. The drive system is based on a complete solution with servo axes that are fully digitally controlled. The super-compact SMS "KS" right-angle servo geared motors are used for six of the seven servo axes. Their main characteristics along with the special, space-saving right-angle design are high torque, low backlash and in particular a very positive connection due to output through a shrink disk. In addition a STOBER SMS "C" type helical geared motor is used for the metering pump.
All the axes are controlled by digital Servo drives of the POSIDRIVE® MDS 5000 type. They are synchronized via a SSI bus.
The drive topology is linked to the primary machine control via PROFIBUS DP. The functionality and precise coordination of the shafts are based on the POSITool application software. As well as the parameterization mode for standard applications, it offers a graphic programming level for individual applications, which was also used in this case.
With the new drive system, the XR70 automatic wafer oven is capable of baking up to 20,000 wafer rolls per hour.
This represents a considerable increase in production over its "conventionally" driven predecessor. Ease of cleaning and flexibility to change the recipes has also greatly improved.
