ABB offers full range of IECEx certified IE2 motors

13 January 2012

ABB can now offer a complete range of high-efficiency motors for explosive atmospheres with the launch of IE2 motors in frame sizes 80 to 132. The full range of ABB IECEx/ATEX certified motors now covers frame sizes 80 to 450, with power ratings of 0.55 kW - 950 kW. The motors are rated at efficiency class IE2 at 400 V 50 Hz.

The motors are available in 2 to 8 pole versions, in all protection classes. High-efficiency means savings in energy costs and reduced CO2 emissions while also offering the advantages of increased safety, longer lifetime, lower maintenance, higher reliability and uninterupted production.

A wide range of variants are available to meet the needs of the demanding chemical, oil and gas industry and of large end users both on- and off-shore. The motors offer insulation class F as standard and are rated temperature rise class B. Following ABB recommendations for variable-speed drive (VSD) duty, the standard motor is suitable for VSDs up to 500 V.

The motors are based on a proven, highly successful design that has been developed to offer further improvements. An improved fastening of the fan cover on sizes 80 to 112 prevents vibration problems, while detachable forged steel feet offer maximum durability and superior resistance to shock loads.

Motors for explosive atmospheres are not covered by the EU MEPS energy saving regulations, for instance, but they are included in IEC standard 60034-30. Demand for high efficiency motors for explosive atmospheres is clearly increasing, and ABB can now meet this demand with a complete range of products in all protection types.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 130,000 people.
