Non-contacting, precision torque sensor with optional measurement of shaft angle and speed

Ixthus Instrumentation is now supplying the Burster 8661 series non-contacting, precision torque sensor with optional measurement of shaft angle and speed. The new 8661 series provides precise and convenient measurement of static and bi-directional rotating torque ranges from 0-0.05Nm to 0-200Nm, with full-scale accuracy to 0.05% for analysing breakaway, holding and tightening torque.

An integrally mounted optical encoder option provides additional angular position measurement to 0.09 degrees with rotational speed feedback. The 8661 series is available in a wide choice of torque measurement ranges and is supplied complete with integral shaft drive assemblies; or for higher speeds and higher torque use, with adapters for direct mount on the mechanical structure to be measured.
The high resolution sensor features a 16-bit D/A converter and metal film strain gauges. A choice of output includes 0 to 10Vdc or USB, which is used with supplied PC software to allow users to directly read information in a dedicated GUI. The analogue output version is fully compatible with Burster and other manufacturers displays whilst the USB option is particularly useful for portable field-based measurement. A three-LED display provides operational status information.
Angle encoder options include 1024 or 400 line quadrature encoders with TTL level output for 0.225 or 0.09 degree resolution. Torque-only versions can be used at speeds to 25,000 rpm whilst encoder versions are limited to 6,000 or 15,000 rpm.
