Paul Golby is the government's preferred candidate for EPSRC chair

Dr Paul Golby CBE, former Chairman and Chief Executive of E.ON UK plc and current chairman of EngineeringUK, has been selected as the government’s preferred candidate to be the chair of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The current chairman, Sir John Armitt CBE steps down at the end of March. The House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee will hold a pre-appointment hearing on 7 March and report on Dr Golby’s suitability for this post.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is one of the seven UK Research Councils principally funded through the government's science budget which is administered by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. EPSRC funds research and training in universities and research units and its grant in aid for 2011-12 is over £800m.
