Gearless, brushless PM motor range for the elevator industry

06 March 2012

A new gearless brushless synchronous motor range, engineered specifically for the lift/elevator market, has been introduced by Lafert Motors. Complete with a factory fitted brake and traction sheave the motor is a compact and fully integrated for this application. The motors employ the latest permanent magnet motor technology and enable lift/elevator manufacturers to offer customers compact energy efficient ‘machine roomless’ designs.

Because Lafert’s new motors use permanent magnet technology they are very efficient, experiencing zero losses in the rotor, whilst also being very quiet and compact.  The energy efficiency of the permanent magnet technology is complemented by the elimination of losses arising from the use of gears – typically worm gears that can have efficiencies as low as 50% are employed for this application.

The exclusion of gears also results in reduced noise and space envelope requirement, and cuts any maintenance requirements significantly by eliminating such operation as oil top ups/renewals.

The motors, which are Directive 95/16/EC EN 81-1 compliant and TÜV verified, offer torques up to 660Nm at low speeds, and payload capabilities ranging from 240kg to 1,275kg (from 3 to 17 people).

The range is available in single- and three-phase units, with power ranges are from 1.4kW to 17.6kW.
