SGS United Kingdom acquires Baseefa
07 March 2012
SGS United Kingdom has acquired the Buxton, UK based notified body for the ATEX Directive, Baseefa, which has operated as a private company since 2001. This acquisition allows SGS to offer expanded services in the verification and testing of products that may be susceptible to potentially explosive environments. Prior to 2001, Baseefa was part of the UK's Health and Safety Executive.
SGS is a leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company with more than 70,000 employees and a network of over 1,350 offices and laboratories around the world. SGS chief executive, Chris Kirk says that with this acquisition, SGS adds new activities to its Consumer Testing Services, which are offered across its global network.
Baseefa's existing management team will remain in place, according to general manager Ron Sinclair.
