Slimline switching units from Weidmuller
21 May 2012
Weidmuller's new TermSeries range of relay modules and solid-state relays offer one or two changeover contacts housed in a slim line design with screw or tension clamp connectivity. The modules come in widths of just 6.4mm and 12.8mm and the compact design of both the relay modules and solid-state relays means they take up less space on the mounting rail and electrical cabinets can be specified smaller as a result.
The relay modules and solid-state relays can be combined as required, to switch loads of up to 8A at 250V. Relay modules are also available with gold contacts for switching low power loads. The range also includes plug-in type solid-state relays for applications that demand high reliability. These modules are easily replaced during maintenance procedures, without having to disconnect wiring.
Users can choose between products with fixed voltage inputs and a novel multi-voltage input version, the latter acceptin input signals between 24 and 230Vac/dc. Having a single module that accepts this variety of inputs reduces storage costs and allows a universal connection to the field level.
The multi-voltage input version is particularly useful in the process industry where the variety of signals of different voltages coming from the field need to be isolated. The conventional approach may require several relay modules and entail time-consuming and costly onsite conversion work. However, with Weidmuller’s multi-voltage input technology, just one relay module is all that is required. Similar addvantages are to be gained in the machine building sector.
TermSeries modules are available with a choice of screw or tension clamp connection, and the housing design ensures equipment markings are always clearly visible. Colour coding to differentiate different voltage versions is also provided. A double-sided printing option is available to ensure that markings are always easy to read regardless of mounting position.
All relay modules and solid-state relays have matching contours and a universal cross-connection, and it is possible to cross-connect screw and tension clamp versions. indeed, TermSeries users are able to cross-connect between all product versions across all five connection levels, a design feature that considerably reduces wiring times.
