TDK Lambda power supplies receive medical approvals

26 June 2012

The TDK-Lambda Alpha 1000 Series (CA) modular ac-dc power supplies is now approved to IEC/EN 60601-1, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No 60601-1-08 3rd Edition medical safety standards – this is in addition to the current approval to the 2nd Edition, ensuring full safety approval for medical equipment is maintained during the transition period from 2nd to 3rd Editions.

With an input operating voltage range of between 85 and 264Vac and an input frequency of 47 to 63Hz, the Alpha 1000 has a start-up time of < 50ms. The flexible modular design of the Alpha Series meets the demand for applications requiring voltages that lie beyond that of standard units; with 7 slots, the Alpha 1000 can accommodate an extensive range of single- and twin-output modules to provide up to 14 outputs thus achieving many combinations of Volts and Amps. In addition, voltage output adjustment is via a multi-turn potentiometer with accuracy to within 1%.

The TDK-Lambda NVM175 is also now approved to IEC/EN 60601-1, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No 60601-1-08 3rd Edition medical safety standards – this is in addition to the current approval to the 2nd Edition, ensuring full safety approval for medical equipment is maintained during the transition period from 2nd to 3rd Editions.

Available with either 12 or 24V output (with 12V/0.2A standby), the NVM175 supplies have universal ac input and are rated at 180W at 50°C with customer air. Leakage current is less than 200µA at 264Vac/63Hz surpassing worldwide medical equipment requirements.

Achieving up to 90% efficiency and consuming less than 1W standby power, the NVM175 meets TDK-Lambda’s design brief for environmentally responsible products. Other standard features include a power good signal, remote on/off and remote sense, as well as protection from over current, over voltage and over temperature conditions.
