Laser Works With Every Paint Finish!
24 January 2005
The automotive industry often faces the task of positioning on already painted car body panels using a robot. For this purpose, the distance between robot and body component must be detected with an accuracy of only a few tenths of a millimetre.
As the modern car production line mixes the various colours available, any sensor used must be able to contend with different paint finishes from white to black to metallic, the dynamic range of the employed laser sensor has to meet the highest demands.
The Sensor Instruments model R-LAS laser sensor uses automatic laser power correction to adapt itself without any problems to the respective surface, which means that bright and dark objects can be detected with the highest accuracy.
Sensors Instruments GmbH have appointed Ixthus Instrumentation to provide sales and technical support in the UK and Ireland. Their product range also includes Laser Distance and Line Sensors, Colour and Luminescence Measurement, Fork and Frame Reflective Light Barriers.
