Low-cost, high accuracy 3D scanning for inspection and reverse engineering

08 August 2012

Solutionix, the fast-expanding developer of structured light 3D scanners, will launch its new Rexcan CS 3D scanner and Rexcan CS+ 3D inspection/metrology solution at the TCT Live 2012 conference/exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham, UK on 25 & 26 September.

Both the Rexcan CS and Rexcan CS+ have been developed to provide high accuracy and resolution along with scanning volume flexibility through interchangeable lense-sets for scans up to 400mm (diagonal), at an exceptionally affordable price. Both use twin cameras, with blue LED technology and phase shifting optical triangulation.

While the Rexcan CS+ is a complete, automated solution aimed primarily at inspection/metrology and archiving applications, the Rexcan CS is available as a standalone, low-cost, high accuracy scanner for use in a wide variety of applications, such as reverse engineering and design.

For inspection/metrology applications, the Rexcan CS+ provides a complete, integrated hardware/software solution that can sit on a desk or be taken to the workplace. Comprising the Rexcan CS scanner, integrated with a dedicated, portable stand, together with a fully integrated and automated 2-axis tilt turntable capable of taking an object weighing up to 10kg, the CS+ includes Geomagic Qualify 3D inspection and reporting software to provide a complete, fully integrated inspection/metrology solution. This enables customers to be up and running in the shortest possible time at the lowest possible cost.

The new Rexcan CS+ features a number of advanced, automated processes to make the system simple to use. These include:

- Automatic scanning and active synchronisation: scanning an object can be achieved with a single mouse click, with the model and camera views being actively synchronised, enabling the user to see any scanning position and then add more scans if required.
- Automatic calibration: once the calibration panel has been installed, clicking the calibration wizard guides the user through an automated calibration process.
- Automatic alignment: using the pre-calculated axis calibration information, accurate alignment is carried out without the need to add targets to the object or for time-consuming manual registration of scans.
- Easy scan path generation: users can easily generate their own scanning path, allowing repeat data collection on objects of various sizes and shapes.

To cater for instances where the object to be scanned is larger or heavier than the maximum that the integrated turntable will accommodate, the scanner sensor can be detached from the Rexcan CS+ and used on a tri-pod or stand as a conventional scanner.

The new Solutionix Rexcan CS and CS+ are scheduled to be available in Europe from August. Pricing (including discounted launch pricing) is available on application.
