Fluke introduces electrical socket testers

07 April 2006

Fluke has introduced a range of professional electrical socket testers with modern, ergonomic and durable designs. The range includes the Fluke SM100, SM200 and SM300, professional tools designed for contractors to rapidly and reliably test the safety of installed mains sockets. The Fluke SM100 checks for missing earth, live/earth reverse, live/neutral reverse, missing neutral or live faults. Three vivid bi-colour LEDs for each check indicate the status of the wiring into the socket. A simple to use chart supplied with the unit clearly indicates faulty wiring.

The Fluke SM200 has a similar design but includes a buzzer which changes from a continuous tone to a pulsing sound in the event of a fault being detected. The Fluke SM300 carries out similar checks with a buzzer, but also offers 30mA RCD checking. A soft-touch button tests that an RCD in the circuit trips within 300ms when a nominal 30mA earth fault current is applied. A further button, the Earth Volts Touchpad, detects raised earth voltages above 50V AC, thus indicating potentially dangerous installations.
