Autodesk and Triple Eight Engineering – a winning team again
10 April 2006
Just in time for the start of the 2006 British Touring Car Championships (BTCC), Autodesk is once again sponsoring Triple Eight Race Engineering, regarded as one of the most successful engineering companies in the UK motorsport industry. Triple Eight Race Engineering is famous for “doing the triple” (winning the drivers’, teams and manufacturers’ championships) four years in a row in their race modified Vauxhall Astra Coupe, developed using Autodesk manufacturing design software, including Autodesk Inventor, the worlds number 1 selling 3D mechanical design software.
Last year they introduced the Vauxhall Sport Hatch and won the manufacturers’ title. In fact, since the team was created in 1996, and out of 126 races, it has stood on the podium 220 times and has clocked up an impressive 80 race wins.
As part of the sponsorship, Triple Eight is extending its use of Autodesk manufacturing design software to ten licenses of Autodesk Inventor Professional and one of AutoCAD Electrical to its existing Inventor base. It is also planning to implement Autodesk’s incremental data management system Autodesk Productstream and take part in a complete Design Review Process to carefully assess processes, looking at the re-use of data throughout the whole operation by automating design data management processes and flows.
“Autodesk Inventor has enabled us to design faster, while at the same time enhance our design creativity, allowing us to model conceptually and trial different scenarios early in the development process. Now we are looking forward to adding to these benefits with the rich functionality of Inventor Professional,” says John Morton, Triple Eight Engineering’s Technical Director.
“We’re delighted to further our relationship with such an exciting and innovative team and feel sure they will be building on their already considerable record during the coming year,” says Kevin Ison, sales director, Autodesk Manufacturing Solutions Division.
The team has announced that its 2006 driver line-up will include BTCC race winner Tom Chilton and Italian and European champion Fabrizio Giovanardi with Gavin Smith filling in the third race seat for his second season with the team.
