A 19in COTS system for shock resistance levels up to 25g
29 September 2013
For rugged mobile aerospace and defence industry applications, Pentair offers the Schroff Titan COTS system with enhanced shock and vibration resistance.

This 19in VME64x system is mechanically based on the Schroff EuropacPRO type R subrack and can withstand shock loadings up to 25g and vibration up to 3g.
The 9U high system is fitted with a 12-slot VME64x backplane with rear I/O as standard. It is possible to modify the design by integrating backplanes with different numbers of slots or other technologies such as VPX, VXS, CompactPCI, etc.
For optimal cooling of the installed components, forced air cooling from front to rear is achieved using a variable speed, temperature-controlled cooling fan. The fan unit is easy to maintain or replace from the front should the necessity arise. Up to four 24Vdc power supply units can be inserted into the system from the front to provide the required power rating.
To achieve still better torsional stiffness, the system is equipped with a newly developed horizontal rail with three-hole fixing, which achieves a stiffness of some 65 percent greater than that compared with rails with two-hole mounting.
The components are secured in place with stainless steel bolts treated with thread-locking compound to prevent them working loose as a result of vibration. In addition to the standard guide rails, the system can also be fitted with guides to accept Card-Loks, Wedge-Loks or clamshells.
Conforming to the usual IEC and IEEE specifications, the 19in Titan COTS VME64x system also satisfies the MIL-STD- 810F (shock resistance 10g; 30 ms), MIL-STD -167 (vibration resistance) and MIL-STD- 461 (EMC compliance) standards.
