Servos are drop-in replacements for old pancakes

16 February 2014

A new range of brushless servo motors, available in the UK from Motor Technology, are simple drop-in replacements for old disc armature motors - also known as pancake motors - from Parvex, AXEM, Servalco, ABB and BBC, that are no longer in production.

The new MCBL motors are robust, maintenance free, permanent magnet synchronous motors designed with a very short housing. They have flange and shaft dimensions compatible with the old pancake motors so that no mechanical modifications are necessary during replacement.

Simply remove the old pancake, choose the correct MCBL motor and it will fit as if it were a like-for-like replacement.

Rated to IP65 the new motors achieve a very high power density and deliver excellent dynamic performance with high maximum speed.

They are designed with rare earth magnets for a wide operating temperature range and have sinusoidal commutation, integrated thermal protection with PTC, rotatable angled connectors and 8-pole construction.

Launched at the SPS exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany, in November, the new MCBL motors are suitable for a wide range of applications such as printing, packaging, materials handling and converting.
