Capillary thermostats cover all needs with low-cost alternatives

09 January 2007

A new range of high-quality custom capillary thermostats with specifications to compete with the most popular traditional market leading devices is now available from ACAL Radiatron. It is the final thermal management sensor range in the company's portfolio, complementing new and established ranges
of pre-set half-inch bi-metal thermostats, miniature thermal switches, thermistor probes and sacrificial thermal fuses.

Capable of operating at the most demanding levels, the range of manually adjustable options comprehensively covers thermostatic control, monitoring and limit applications at substantially reduced cost, says the company.

A novel compact surface-mounting integral-bulb type makes for easier, more secure fixing. It also means greater sensitivity and so faster response to changes in temperature of flat surfaces such as water tanks, hot plates etc. Conventional bulb options are also available in copper, copper 'pigtail' or
hygienic stainless steel - typically with diameters of 5mm or 10mm. Standard capillary lengths are from 400mmm to 900mm with a 15000mm (max.).

Ideal for refrigeration, heating, ventilation, laboratory, industrial, catering and domestic white goods needs the new range offers both temperature control and thermal limit (cut-out) options and combinations.
Temperature ranges can be selected to cover individual requirements, say -35C to +20C for a refrigeration application, or 40C to 100C for a boiler application for example, within a total temperature capability
spanning -35C to 320C. Single- and double-pole formats are available with current ratings of 16A, 20A and 30A.

Options are available with or without 'off' positions and with or without integral manual / auto reset switches. Ceramic and plastic body versions allow the most competitive arrangement to be selected for any given application. Normal switching differential is +/-4% with a tolerance of +/-3%. The parts offer CE, VDE and UL approvals. Typical life cycles exceed 100,000 operations at 16A / 240V.
