'One VLT for all motors' now includes synchronous reluctance
02 October 2014
A new control algorithm for Danfoss VLT frequency converters now covers synchronous reluctance motors.

Danfoss' VLT AutomationDrive is able to control a variety of motor types - now including synchronous reluctance. Features include advanced Voltage Vector Control and specially adapted algorithms that allow efficient operation.
High efficiency synchronous reluctance is an emerging motor technology that offers optimum energy utilisation. At the same time, it is a robust, low maintenance technology.
When diverse motor technologies are controlled by a single drive platform, the designer has freedom to install the most appropriate motor for each application. Moreover, upgrading to new motor technology is simple, as no exchange of the drive is required.
With the new Danfoss firmware for synchronous reluctance, commissioning just as easy as it is for a standard ac asynchronous motor. The installer has to enter only four motor parameters.
The automatic motor adaptation for synchronous reluctance motors takes only 2.7 seconds to measure the motor characteristics and optimise the motor parameters. The motor then operates at the highest possible energy efficiency, for lower energy consumption and reduced running costs.
Danfoss’ 'One VLT for all motors' can be configured for operation of standard asynchronous machines, permanent magnet and synchronous reluctance motors. Existing installations can be upgraded with the new software.
